Attendance Percentage Calculator
Check where your attendance stands and what it takes to hit the requirement. If you're below the bar, you'll see exactly how many consecutive classes you must attend; if you're above it, how many you can still safely miss.
How to use this calculator
- Enter classes attended and classes held so far (from your portal).
- Set the required percentage — usually 75%.
- Press Calculate: you'll see either your safe-miss budget or the recovery streak you need.
Formula used
Both come from requiring attended/held ≥ r after future classes. Recovery assumes you attend every one of the next x classes; each future missed class both fails to add to your count and raises the total, which is why recovery is slower than falling was.
Example calculation
34 of 48 classes = 70.8%, below a 75% requirement.
Recovery: x = ⌈(75×48 − 3400) ÷ 25⌉ = ⌈8⌉ = 8 consecutive classes → 42/56 = exactly 75%. Miss even one of those eight and the streak restarts longer.
The asymmetry of attendance math
Attendance percentage is brutal in one direction: missing a class hurts twice (numerator stays, denominator grows), while attending only helps once. From 70.8%, it takes 8 perfect classes to climb back to 75% — but only 2 misses to fall there from 76%.
That asymmetry is the real lesson: the safe-miss budget shown when you're above the bar is worth rationing across the whole term, because burning it early leaves no slack for illness or emergencies later — precisely when you'll need it.
Why use this calculator?
- Know your exact safe-miss budget instead of guessing until the warning letter.
- Get the precise recovery streak when you're below the requirement.
- Plan for exams: many institutions bar students under 75% from finals.
Frequently asked questions
How many classes can I miss and stay at 75%?
You can miss 1 class for every 3 you attend. Formally: safe misses = ⌊attended × 100/75 − held⌋. At 40/48 (83.3%), that's ⌊53.3 − 48⌋ = 5 more misses before touching 75%.
My attendance is 65% — can I still reach 75%?
Only if enough classes remain. From 65% you need to attend roughly 40% as many classes as have already been held, consecutively, without a single miss. Run your numbers above; if the required streak exceeds remaining classes, speak to your institution about condonation options.
Do medical leaves count against attendance?
Policies differ — many institutions condone documented medical absence or maintain a separate condonation band (e.g. 65–75% with a certificate). This calculator computes raw percentages; check your handbook for exemption rules.
