Formula used
The calculation subtracts calendar components, borrowing days from the previous month and months from the previous year where needed — exactly how official age is determined. Leap years are handled automatically by real calendar dates.
Example calculation
Born 15 March 2000, age on 25 July 2026:
Years: 2026 − 2000 = 26 (birthday already passed). Months: July − March = 4. Days: 25 − 15 = 10. Exact age = 26 years, 4 months, 10 days — about 9,629 total days.
How is exact age calculated?
Legal and chronological age is calendar-based, not a simple division of days by 365. You turn a year older on each birthday, so exact age counts completed years first, then completed months since the last birthday, then leftover days — borrowing from the calendar when the day or month goes negative.
This matters for official cutoffs: school admission, exams, driving licences, retirement and visa applications often require your age "as on" a specific date. That's what the second date field is for — set it to the cutoff date and you'll get the exact age authorities will use.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my age from my date of birth?
Subtract your birth year from the current year, then subtract one if your birthday hasn't happened yet this year. For months and days, count from your most recent birthday. The calculator does the calendar borrowing for you automatically.
How does the calculator handle leap years?
It uses real calendar dates, so 29 February and varying month lengths are handled exactly. If you were born on 29 February, your age in common years increments on 1 March in most legal systems.
Can I calculate age between two specific dates?
Yes — put the earlier date in the date-of-birth field and the later date in the "as of" field. This also works for job tenure, relationship anniversaries, or the age of anything with a start date.
How many days old am I?
Multiply rough years by 365.25, or just use the calculator — it shows total days precisely. A 26-year-old has lived roughly 9,500 days; you cross 10,000 days at about 27 years 4 months.
